Endings are Beginnings
Mar 07, 2025Pam Gregory recently spoke about the powerful shifts happening in our world. She explains, "We are living in extraordinary times, a transition into a new consciousness." Yet, as we step into this emerging awareness, we also witness a tightening grip of old systems. The disparity of wealth is staggering—three billionaires control as much wealth as half the U.S. population. The power struggles are blatant, and the chaos in Washington, D.C., and beyond is almost too absurd to take seriously. I can hardly watch the news anymore without shaking my head.
Some may think I'm crazy, but I choose to see the good in it all—not out of blind optimism, not because I glorify suffering, but because I recognize the deeper pattern at play. Imagine a woman in labor. If you had never witnessed childbirth before, you might panic at the sight of her pain, the breaking of her water, the blood, the screams. You might think she is about to die. Yet, what follows that agony? New life. A baby cradled in her arms. The ordeal is forgotten as she steps out of the hospital, transformed.
Could this be what the world is going through? A painful but necessary birth into something new?
On a personal level, I find myself navigating an ending and a beginning of my own. My son, at 13, needs more structure than I can provide at home. A voluntary placement in a therapeutic foster home is on the horizon—a heartbreaking decision. I could easily sink into sorrow, disappointment, or self-judgment for not raising him under my roof until adulthood. But thank God I'm a coach. I get to ask myself a different set of questions: What if this all works out? What if he thrives in a structured environment, as I know he does? What if he’s happy there? What if, instead of managing his care, I get to be just his mom again?
When we face struggles, we often resist them, seeing them only as losses. But what if they are the contractions before birth? What if, instead of endings, they are beautiful new beginnings? How liberating it is to shift the question from Why is this happening? or How am I going to survive this? to What if this is leading all of us somewhere better?
As we navigate these tumultuous times—personally and collectively—we must remind ourselves that every great transformation comes with discomfort. But beyond the chaos, beyond the pain, something new is waiting to be born. What if it’s something extraordinary?
